Master of Science in Geology

The Master of Science in Geology, was designed to train professionals with advanced knowledge in the different areas of earth sciences, developing skills that allow them to face challenges in highly complex investigations.

The curriculum is created so that students focus exclusively on the thesis work, acquiring advanced knowledge available from all departments within the Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (FCFM) of the University of Chile, which will provide them with an enrichment in the development of their work of thesis, as well as to face the challenges presented by in the private sector in any of the fields of Earth Sciences.  

Program objectives

The main objective of our program is to train human resources with in-depth knowledge in the field of geology, with the ability to perform creatively both in higher education and in the development of scientific and applied research.

Graduate profile

Our graduates should:

  • Be capable of carrying out specific research work in both basic and applied science
  • Understand and apply and cutting-edge methodologies for solving geological problems
  • Contribute to the knowledge and development of Chile, regionally, and globally

The final thesis must be an original contribution to the geological sciences, either from the point of view of the application of methodological aspects or of the generation of the geological knowledge necessary for the resolution of a specific problem. It corresponds to an individual work that each applicant or candidate develops to obtain the Master's of Science.
